Calibration
Measuring instruments in quality-relevant areas must be calibrated regularly. Because even the smallest measurement errors can have drastic effects on the safety of plants, systems or the quality of products. Calibration comprises the activities for determining the correlation between the output values of a measuring device (measuring instrument) and the known values of the measured quantity under known conditions. Calibration should not be mistaken with adjustment of a measuring instruments. By calibrating testing equipment, its function and accuracy is checked and documented in a calibration certificate.
